X1 technology puts customers with disabilities in control

Technology plays a very important role in the lives of people with disabilities. Launching products that are accessible to all of our customers is a top priority for Comcast. Our X1 platform is a shining example of this principle.

Three years ago, Comcast released the industry’s first voice-enabled television user interface, revolutionizing the way XFINITY TV customers navigate the X1 platform. The X1 remote with voice control is a game changer for how our customers access their entertainment and news, and for how our customers experience entertainment.

Comcast launched Voice Guidance in 2015. This X1 “talking guide” reads aloud selections from the X1 menu such as program titles, network names, show time slots, and DVR and On Demand settings. This gives our customers who are blind or visually impaired the freedom to independently explore and navigate thousands of shows and movies. Simple voice commands allow viewers to find their favorite channels or programs quicker.
