Villages at Parkside Residents Get Help with Digital Adoption
Comcast partnered with Friends of Parkside to bring the Xfinity Stage display to the 13th Annual Parkside Community Health, Safety, & Job Fair at the Detroit Housing Commission’s Villages of Parkside townhomes. This community event provided information, resources, educational, and networking opportunities that support and transform the residents and the larger community.
At the event, Xfinity Communities representatives helped income-constrained residents take advantage of the $30 monthly credit for internet service they are entitled to through the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). They also educated residents about Internet Essentials, demonstrated Xfinity products, and made visitors aware of special offers available. The company also gifted Friends of Parkside 40 laptop computers and distributed some of those laptops to residents present at the event.
“Comcast understands the barriers to digital adoption, and we continue to meet people where they are to help them clear those barriers to getting online,” said Melissa Bahoora, Vice President of Sales for Comcast in Michigan. “It is so important that we work with our community partners like Friends of Parkside, to help educate residents about the many ways being online can enhance their lives, such as having access to telehealth, distance learning, and work-from-home options.”
Friends of Parkside will award the remainder of the laptops to eligible residents who participated in a University of Michigan broadband adoption survey later this summer.
In Michigan, Comcast has partnered with several housing complexes this year to help educate and inform residents about ACP and Internet Essentials.
