In its ongoing commitment to advance digital equity, Comcast has awarded Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan a $100,000 Digital Equity Fund grant to help power the nonprofit’s Industry Club, which offers youth workforce training and entrepreneurial development across various industries.
The funds will bolster the Industry Club’s technology, providing cutting-edge software and infrastructure. Club members will gain proficiency in coding, app design and digital marketing, promotion and more. The grant will also support staffing, which will include Digital Navigators—individuals trained to help people access the Internet, use devices and build digital skills.
“As one of our longtime supporters, Comcast once again steps up to the plate and demonstrates its passion for digital equity,” said Shawn Wilson, CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. “Thanks in large part to this grant, our teens participating in the Industry Club will have the resources and support needed to help them build their digital, technical and communication skills. Together, with Comcast, we are increasing the employability and entrepreneurship opportunities for our Club members.”
Comcast and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan have been partners for more than 20 years. This partnership includes advancing digital equity for more Detroit students and families. Last year, Comcast awarded the nonprofit a $50,000 Lift Zone Opportunity Fund grant. This award helped the nonprofit acquire technology, software, digital skills training content, tech support training for staff and aesthetic improvements to the Comcast Lift Zone in the Club’s Diehl Center location. Lift Zones provide free robust WiFi hotspots in safe spaces designed to help students and families get online, participate in distance learning, do homework, search for jobs, and access healthcare information and other needed resources.

The Digital Equity Fund Grant from Comcast is a part of Project UP, the company’s comprehensive, one-billion-dollar initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities.
