Comcast Participating in ‘National Black Churches 4 Digital Equity Day’ in Detroit

Income-Constrained Detroiters to Receive Support Enrolling in Federal Government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

Open to the public, community members are invited to attend a day of action at Greater Grace Temple on Saturday, Sept. 24 with the aim at bridging the digital divide by helping enroll eligible community members in ACP; a benefit program that helps ensure that households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more.

National Black Churches 4 Digital Equity Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 am – 2 pm at the Greater Grace Temple, which is located at 23500 W. Seven Mile Road in Detroit.

Organized by Black Churches 4 Digital Equity (BC4DE), this event is part of a nationwide movement of Black church leaders mobilizing to close the digital divide in Black communities. Comcast, which has been actively working to increase digital equity in Detroit for more than 11 years, will be on hand with volunteers to help educate attendees. 29% of Black adults nationwide don’t have a home internet connection. The ACP offers a $30 monthly subsidy to help families in need buy home internet service – enough to cover the full cost of high-speed service from participating ISPs. An estimated 48 million households are eligible for the ACP – yet fewer than one-third of eligible households have enrolled.
