Comcast is in the final stages of completing a 23-mile, all-fiber infrastructure build to expand its fast, reliable internet service in Grattan Township. When completed, the company will offer up to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) symmetrical internet speeds to 211 new households. This network expansion is part of the State of Michigan’s Connecting Michigan Communities (CMIC) Grant Program intended to bring high-speed broadband service to unserved areas across the state.
“Ensuring all Michiganders have access to fast, reliable and secure internet and the resources and opportunities it provides is vital,” said Michigan State Senator Rick Outman of the 33rd District. “The CMIC grant program and its partnership with Comcast will now help deliver a strong broadband network to Grattan Township homes.”
Residential customers in these areas will be able to take advantage of Xfinity’s full suite of broadband services. These include access to symmetrical internet speeds up to 1 Gbps; advanced WiFi technology capable of supporting the ever-increasing number of connected devices in their homes; and xFi, a digital dashboard to control their home WiFi network and the devices connected to it, as well as xFi Advanced Security, which protects every device on the network from potential malware and security threats. Additionally, Comcast offers Internet Essentials, which brings broadband into the home for eligible low-income families for free when combined with the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program.
Comcast’s Xfinity Gigabit Internet service is delivered using the company’s existing network architecture and the connections that are already in most customers’ homes. In the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $850 million in technology and infrastructure in Michigan, including upgrades to its broadband network.
