Greater Flint Health Coalition Receives $50,000 Grant from Comcast to Support Digital Skills Training 

Grant will help residents learn the skills needed for employment in healthcare sector 

Comcast today announced it has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Greater Flint Health Coalition (GFHC), a community organization dedicated to helping Flint residents gain the knowledge and skills needed to lead healthy and productive lives.  

The grant will support the GFHC’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) program, which aims to connect residents to the digital world. The FHEO program assists unemployed or underemployed residents in Genesee County by providing the necessary training and education to secure sustainable employment in the local healthcare sector. The grant will fund digital literacy training, basic computer skills, interview preparation, resume development and revision, critical thinking and problem-solving, Microsoft Office utilization, and job search and employment preparation. 

“Accessing all the digital world has to offer is a challenge for some of our residents, whether it’s using online services for their personal needs or utilizing the skills required to secure employment,” said Jim Ananich, president and CEO of Greater Flint Health Coalition. “The continued support we’ve received from Comcast has enabled us to provide our program participants with the necessary skills and know-how needed to succeed in an increasingly connected world.” 

Digital Skills Sessions for Flint Residents

As part of the grant, GFHC will host digital skills development sessions led by trained Digital Navigators, who are trusted community members trained to help residents get online, use devices and acquire digital skills. These sessions will educate participants about broadband adoption and the many ways the Internet can benefit them.

This grant is a part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to providing digital opportunities and advancing economic mobility. Comcast partners with local community organizations to offer free Internet access via Lift Zones and support vital programs, which provide participants with digital literacy training and digital navigation services to expand their world with unlimited possibilities.
