Comcast Donates Laptops to Support Oak Park’s Power of Produce Program

Comcast partners with Human-I-T to distribute laptops to seniors, families

Comcast surprised 50 families and seniors with laptops at the Oak Park Farmers Market in Oakland County.

Laptop recipients are participants of the Power of Produce Program, hosted by the Oak Park Farmers Market. The free, seven-week program encourages families and seniors to explore nutritious foods, engage in activities, socialize and live healthy lives while earning credit to spend on fresh produce at the market.

“For many seniors, a laptop is more than just a device—it’s a gateway to independence, connection, and an improved quality of life.”

Erik Tungate, Oak Park City Manager

“The City of Oak Park prioritizes the well-being of our seniors and most vulnerable residents,” said City Manager Erik Tungate. “The Power of Produce Program promotes healthy habits and food exploration — and with support from Comcast — also provides critical digital tools. For many seniors, a laptop is more than just a device—it’s a gateway to independence, connection, and an improved quality of life.”

“At Comcast, we believe in fostering a community where everyone has the chance to thrive.”

Jennifer Jambor, Community Impact Director, Comcast Heartland Region

“At Comcast, we believe in fostering a community where everyone has the chance to thrive,” said Jennifer Jambor, community impact director, Comcast Heartland Region. “Collaboration with our community partners – the Oak Park Farmers Market, Human-I-T, and many others – make it possible to support the needs of families and seniors in the communities in which we live and serve.”

Comcast also donated funds to support the Oak Park Farmers Market for the 2025 season. The Oak Park Farmers Market supports low-income, food-insecure residents and aims to make fresh food accessible through local partnerships and national federal nutrition programs, such as Double Up Food Bucks and Prescription for Health coupons.

Impact Across Michigan

This donation and other recent laptop donations – including donations to graduating foster youth across the state, and winners of the Metro Detroit Science and Engineering Fair – are a part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to connect people to the internet, create digital opportunity, and build a future of unlimited possibilities.

In Michigan, Comcast offers several programs to increase internet accessibility and skills training opportunities, including:

  • The Comcast Internet Essentials program provides low-cost, high-speed broadband service to eligible low-income households, connecting more than 1.3 million students, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities enrolled in a variety of government assistance programs, including the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, the Federal Pell Grant program, SNAP, SSI, WIC, and others.
  • Comcast operates more than 60 Lift Zones across Michigan. Lift Zones are robust Wi-Fi hotspots in safe spaces where kids and adults can access free high-speed WiFi, learn digital skills, and participate in remote learning.
  • Comcast has donated millions of dollars in cash and in-kind donations to community-based organizations in Michigan over the last three years, helping more people connect to education, healthcare, jobs, and much needed resources.
