Comcast’s sponsorship helps brighten the holidays for Detroit youth and their families

This holiday season, Comcast is teaming up with Detroit PAL to make the holidays brighter for local families through its sponsorship of the annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ program.

Hosted at Meijer on Eight Mile Road, Detroit PAL and the Detroit Police Department welcomed 20 Detroit-area children and their families for a special shopping experience. Each family received a $250 gift card to purchase clothing, toys, and other essentials. The program paired PAL kids with Detroit Police Department officers, who served as shopping guides as families shopped throughout the store.

The goal of the ‘Shop with a Cop’ program is to foster positive relationships between youth and law enforcement and provide support for families facing financial challenges during the holiday season.

“This event reflects the core of our mission, which is to connect young people with positive role models and uplift the community,” said Fred Hunter, CEO of Detroit PAL. “We are deeply grateful for Comcast’s partnership, which allows us to expand our impact and bring meaningful support to Detroit youth during the holiday season.”

Detroit PAL serves approximately 10,000 youth annually, offering athletic, academic, and leadership development programs. With the help of more than 1,000 trained volunteers, the organization works to help Detroit’s boys and girls find their greatness.

“We’re proud to support Detroit PAL and share their goal of building the leaders of today and tomorrow by creating a future of unlimited possibilities for families in Detroit,” said Jennifer Jambor, Director of Community Impact, Comcast’s Heartland Region.

Support of Detroit PAL and other community partners in Michigan is a part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to expand internet access, deliver digital skills training, and drive economic mobility.
