Comcast Business brings 100-Gig-capable network closer to Shelby Township businesses

Comcast Business has completed an expansion of its fiber-based network along 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township that adds 40.5 miles of fiber to 700 businesses passed. Capable of delivering up to 100 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) of network capacity, the expanded fiber network encompasses a 3.4-mile stretch along 23 Mile Road between Romeo Plank Road and M-53.

This $1.5 million investment provides businesses access to a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance Ethernet, Internet and advanced voice solutions that will help meet the day-to-day demands of organizations requiring large amounts of bandwidth, looking to link multiple sites or branch locations, or planning to connect their offices to a third-party data center.

“Every day, an average of 19 newcomers make Macomb County their home,” said Grace Shore, CEO of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce. “23 Mile Road in Shelby Township has become a heavily populated retail area – in large part because Macomb is one of the fastest growing counties in Michigan. Providing businesses with the most advanced technology today and in the future is imperative to our ability to continue growing our business community and overall economy. Proactively building fiber to this retail corridor demonstrates Comcast’s commitment to Macomb County.”

Over the past three years, Comcast Business has invested $37 million statewide completing fiber builds across Michigan. In addition to large cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing, the company is focused on bringing its fiber network closer to businesses in metro core areas, such as Shelby Township.

“A symmetrical, fiber internet solution is no longer only sought out by massive companies with multiple locations,” said Jeff Marston, vice president of Comcast Business in Michigan. “The increasing reliance on big data and cloud applications is also driving bandwidth usage from small and medium-size companies. Our scalable, advanced network allows us to tailor our technology solutions to meet changing and diverse needs of businesses.”

All of Comcast Business’ multi-Gigabit Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that serves 20 of the nation’s 25 largest markets and spans 149,000 miles across 39 states and the District of Columbia. Comcast was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).
