NexGen Media GR, a nonprofit in Grand Rapids, Michigan, provides youth with real-world experience to develop the skills they need for a successful career in broadcast media. In partnership with Comcast, NexGen Media GR presented a cohort of 12 students with new Dell laptops at a celebration event on Tuesday, March 28. The laptop presentation culminated a six-week, interactive afterschool program that includes radio and podcasting, plus TV and film education.
“We are grateful and excited to have Comcast’s support as we work to empower young people to pursue their dreams in the field of broadcast media,” said Dione Boles, executive director of NexGen Media GR. “With these laptops, our students will have access to the tools they need to further develop their skills and flourish in the industry.”
The NexGen Radio and Podcast program introduces a radio station’s business and operation principles and teaches the soft and technical skills required for a successful podcast. The TV and Film program includes production planning, camera and editing techniques and how to direct and produce a television show.
The donation of 12 Dell laptops by Comcast ensures the students enrolled in NexGen Media GR’s afterschool program will have the necessary tools to hone their skills for years to come.

The donation is part of Comcast’s Project UP, a $1 billion initiative to advance digital equity, connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.
